I was life-guarding at Carpenteria State Park Beach in California for a week when I was taking a break from a solo 8-week West Coast Tour. Some friends were life-guards, too, so they hired me for a week, so I could live in the Life Guard house right on the beach. One starry night, we went out to the beach to build a fire and sing songs and found a red tide was in action. An amazing experience. Anytime the waves would break, a streak of light swirled thru the water. It was pretty darn psychedelic.....and inspired this song.
