Not in the condition you received it in But in what you have and lack A love expands a season If it makes you lose your bearings Take these seeds To cure the weeds That are growing Take these stones They will endure The weathering Freedom is a word We seem to feel it Love is a word We seem to use We go through the motions And we don’t understand the words We go through the motions And we don’t understand their words Carved my name on old, old tree Along with a hundred others Sat this woman on my knee And she used me for her covers Carved my name on old, old tree Up on lumbering mountain I can see I can wish where I can be Up on lumbering mountain Up on lumbering mountain :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Copyright © 1972/2018 ® by Chet Nichols (ASCAP) & Chet Nichols Creative Services (Magic Garage Music Division): Publisher (ASCAP) All US and Global Rights are reserved. “Lonely Woman” Lyrics and Music by Chet Nichols Copyright 1969/2001/2016 by Chet Nichols (ASCAP) & Magic Garage Music (ASCAP) PO Box 2398, Northbrook, IL 60065 http://www.chetnichols.net :: chet@chetnichols.net MagicGarageMusic@gmail.com For Licensing Info, please contact us. ALL RIGHTS STRICTLY RESERVED I heard a lonely woman crying through the wall To be alone can be a pleasure, but loneliness haunts us all The woman strummed on silver strings Sang songs of wonderful things And of the joy that love brings Her lover left and the loneliness stings Out on the streets she looks over her shoulder God, she look so much older She lets her hair rest quietly She lets it down nightly She wonders why it made her cry After all the times, she’s heard him lie Oh, why, why, why The flags are flying upside down From the crosses on the hill The steps of the dancer And the songs of waking Are suddenly very still Their nation of two, their sanctuary Grew silver wings and flew away Her brown eyes are red and gray and blue The bond she dreamed of as a little daydreamer The games of making up children’s names Her prince charming Turned out to be very alarming Oh, will her life Will her life ever be the same. Oh, there are so many noble men With noble words to say But, their words and their thoughts Oh, they go in so many different ways But, never in the same direction No, never in the same direction I saw a lonely woman Walking through the park Leda and the swan made love on the lawn So we joined hands and took turns singing songs The woman strummed on silver strings Sang songs of wonderful things And of the joy that love brings He lover left and the loneliness stings She lets her hair rest quietly She lets it down just for me She lets it down every night She lets it down just for me She wonders why her cry After all the times she’s heard him lie Oh, why, why, why Oh, why, why, why

“Modern Progress” Music and Lyric by Chet Nichols (ASCAP) Copyright 1995/2019 by Chet Nichols (ASCAP) & Chet Nichols Creative Services (Magic Garage Music Division): Publisher (ASCAP) URL: http://www.chetnichols.net Email: chet@chetnichols.net Email: MagicGarageMusic@protonmail.com Email: ChetNichols@me.com ALL RIGHTS RESERVED VERSE 1. Off in the distance and thru the mist The towers beam the messages no one can resist And along the lazy river where we used to play Sits a gambling boat They’ve built more storage lockers and more motels ‘Cause no one is at home any more to ring the dinner bell And the topsoil of dreams is being carried away Flowing downstream CHORUS Ooo, that’s modern progress But, down below the haze The population’s in a daze Ooo,,Ooo, that’s modern progress Oh, but, Lord, when will we ever learn VERSE 2. Out on the hills the rigs nod up and down To squeeze the oil that’s buried below the Texas towns They fuel the mini power plants that drive us to the grave Thru the smoky air And the semis on the interstate slide in and out of lanes Moving dreams to marketplace lit up like circus trains Because someone’s found a way to stuff 10 pounds of scrap Into a two pound bag Repeat CHORUS BRIDGE Out on the desert red lights climb the grade They’re all fighting for the parking spot that has a little shade Everyone’s in a hurry to be leading the parade To the shopping malls, to get the latest upgrade Repeat CHORUS To take it slow, give a little slack Give one another what we want given back When will we ever learn When will we ever Oh, will we ever learn ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Copyright © 1995/2019 ® by Chet Nichols (ASCAP) & Chet Nichols Creative Services (Magic Garage Music Division): Publisher (ASCAP) All US and Global Rights are reserved. We may have talked We may have thought We may have dreamed together Yet, as I sit here right now It really means nothing Crossing the days off of the calendar Watch them peacefully march on (by) In the crisscross march of today In a parade of constant time CHORUS And here I sit upon the hill And watch the cloud show And here I sit upon the hill And watch the cloud show And here I sit upon the hill And watch the cloud show go by VERSE 2. For me there is only the thought Of your touch and it’s warmth To keep me till time Takes my hand leads me and then we kiss To be free to fear is life To be free to exist is being To be free to wonder is liberty To be free to love is essence CHORUS - Repeat VERSE 3. The art of forming fantasy Has been woken from its bed It may be here to give us human truth Yet, destruction may kill it instead Won’t you stop and wallow in a dream Share the natural high of love Follow compassion’s mystery trail Into the forest of love CHORUS - Repeat Copyright © 1968/2019/2021 ® by Chet Nichols (ASCAP) & Chet Nichols Creative Services (Magic Garage Music Division): Publisher (ASCAP) All US and Global Rights are reserved. about

If you like inventive singer-songwriters and some highly creative acoustic guitar work, you will probably enjoy this album.

This is a new album of older vintage songs that were recently re-discovered as we began a deep dive into Chet's catalogue. Featured are mostly solo tracks that feature Chet's vocals, guitar work, piano and mystical lyrics. Some go as far back as the mid-1960's and the early 1970's and up to the present day.

Chet came from the LA/SF singer-songwriter, psychedelic-solo-loner-acid-folk artist movement in the mid-1960's, the 1970's and forward to the present day. So, there are unique influences you will enjoy in this timeless collection from the likes of Tim Buckley, Joni Mitchell, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, Don Henley (The Eagles), Richie Havens, Donovan, James Taylor, Nick Drake and other artists of the day.

During Chet's years of touring as a solo artist, he has performed with many, many iconic artists and bands including: Jethro Tull, Linda Ronstadt, BB King, The Jefferson Airplane, John Denver, Ian & Sylvia, Poco, John Lee Hooker, The New Riders Of The Purple Sage, The Grateful Dead, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, The Dirt Band, Dan Hicks & The Hotlicks, It's A Beautiful Day, Hot Tuna and many others.

We hope you enjoy the collection from one of the award-winning, songwriter pioneers from the 60's & 70's who is still a very active songwriter, instrumental composer and sound designer.
