“Waving Prairie” Lyrics & Music by Chet Nichols Copyright 1969 by Chet Nichols/Magic Garage Music (ASCAP) chet@chetnichols.net * http://www.chetnichols.net ALL RIGHTS RESERVED EBBEBE Off on the waving prairie The road that brings me home Is the same road that takes me away We should all hitchhike once in a while The feel the need of depending And to walk the lowly mile Get caught in a heavy thunderstorm On the waving prairie Rebuild the city Regroup the old stones Forget the crumbled citadel And bury all the bones I’m here and now Not trying to grow old too soon I’m gaps that need repair And I need some wind Lord, I need some wind I need some wind to flow I need some wind to flow I need some wind to flow To the waving prairie You can ride I’d rather walk Try to keep my pace This sea of land it takes me in You’d walk if you weren’t in the race Live and work and try to be free Do you listen with your mouth Or do you use your ears? Live and work and try to be free Do you listen from without Or do you use within? And bear yourself to a stranger Live and work And bear yourself to a stranger Try to be free And bear yourself to a stranger Live and work And bear yourself from future danger My fingers are the columns that are braced against the sky My fingers are the music played from my crystal spy My fingers play the music that makes you laugh and makes you high My fingers are the mourning of the Ohio six who died My fingers are the columns that guide and testify My fingers are the vehicle that get me around To the waving prairie Off on the waving prairie The road that brings me home Is the same road that takes me away

“Lumbering Mountain” Lyrics and Music by Chet Nichols Copyright 1972 by Chet Nichols/ Magic Garage Music (ASCAP) ALL RIGHTS RESERVED chet@chetnichols :: http://www.chetnichols.net If I gave you love Would you give it back? Not in the condition you received it in But in what you have and lack A love expands a season If it makes you lose your bearings Take these seeds To cure the weeds That are growing Take these stones They will endure The weathering Freedom is a word We seem to feel it Love is a word We seem to use We go through the motions And we don’t understand the words We go through the motions And we don’t understand their words Carved my name on old, old tree Along with a hundred others Sat this woman on my knee And she used me for her covers Carved my name on old, old tree Up on lumbering mountain I can see I can wish where I can be Up on lumbering mountain Up on lumbering mountain

“Lady, Oh, Lady” Lyrics and Music by Chet Nichols Copyright 1970 by Chet Nichols/ Magic Garage Music (ASCAP) chet@chetnichols.net :: http://www.chetnichols.net “A butterfly speaks with a beautiful lady and convinces her to trade places…” Lady, oh, lady Care for dreams of butterflies? Give you the dreams And their velvet wings To wear you’re hair To know your heart To love your lover When the day gets dark Would it be nice To drop on Every flower that you see? Play with me Come trade with me Drink from the cup Then lay back You can see You can see And now that I am you And you are me Together and forever That’s the way it must be The cup has no cure That’s part of its lure Close Close

“Kites In The County” Lyrics and Music by Chet Nichols Copyright 1969 by Chet Nichols/ Magic Garage Music (ASCAP) chet@chetnichols.net :: http://www.chetnichols.net ALL RIGHTS RESERVED Children come from behind the rocks Music, come from behind the wind The wind holds up the kites in the county So, won’t ‘cha Come on, come on, come on, come on down Tom’s kite is the highest above Bob’s kite bears the symbol of love Cathy’s kite is the most free in the sky So, won’t ‘cha Come on, come on, come on, come on down I’ve been informed that the baker is dead And that the banker has gone and lost his head I think it’s clear that we should rule instead So, won’t ‘cha Come on, come on, come on, come on down We’ve been here twenty minutes Seems like a day I’m alone on a string Depending upon the wind I’m relaxed but I feel I’m moving very slow Am I? I don’t know Am I? I don’t know Am I? I don’t know Now, come down, you can fly my kite I built it in six hours last night So that this wind could guide its virgin flight So, won’t ‘cha Come on, come on, come on, come on down There’s a blue one with a long tail Alone, on a string, depending upon the wind Climbing, falling, dancing and laughing So, won’t ‘cha Come on, come on, come on, come on down

about

This album was produced in 1972-73 in San Francisco at Wally Heider's Studio by Stephen Barncard. It has a fine and very special collection of musicians backing Chet up on the tracks. The album is minimalistic, yet, very dynamic and robust. It has a strong psychedelic-acid-folk-rock-outside-loner vibe to it and features multi-instrumental skills and strong vocals at the time. All this features back up Chet's embedded poetic lyrics.

"Waving Prairie" is filled with award-winning songs, especially the title track. It is also a strong follow-up to Chet's first album, "Time Loop".
